Embracing the Unknown: Lessons Learned Living in Bali with a Twist of Humour

Bali, the Island of the Gods, is not just a place of breathtaking natural beauty, but also a place where you can learn to live a different kind of life - with a twist of humour. Living in Bali has taught me to embrace the unknown, be flexible, patient and to not take myself too seriously, values that have changed my life for the better.

Expect to see ceremonies on your commute that are awe-inspiring and beautiful - and also blocking the road to your planned destination!

One of the first things I noticed when I arrived in Bali was the pace of life. Balinese people are known for their laid-back attitude, and it's contagious. I learned to slow down, take things as they come, and not worry about things I can't control. This change in perspective has helped me to be more present in each moment and has reduced my stress levels significantly. Although, I must admit, I still struggle with the concept of being on 'island time' and often find myself checking my watch when I'm supposed to meet someone.

Another lesson I learned from the Balinese is the importance of flexibility. In Bali, you have to be ready for anything. You might plan to go to a certain beach, only to find out that the road is blocked or the waves are too rough. Instead of getting frustrated, you learn to go with the flow and find a different solution. This has taught me to be more flexible in my life, both physically and mentally. I now find myself not flinching when I receive a change of plans, even if it means swapping my planned hike for a day of exploring local markets.

I’ve learned to slow down and look down! These beautiful offerings are placed on the ground and if you’re not present, you might step on them.

Patience is another important lesson I've learned in Bali. Things here move at a different pace, and things often take longer than you expect. At first, I found this frustrating, but with time, I learned to be patient and wait for things to happen in their own time. This has helped me to be more relaxed and to enjoy life more.

In conclusion, living in Bali has taught me the value of embracing the unknown. It has helped me to be more flexible, patient, and to live life to the fullest. I would recommend anyone to visit this amazing island, not just for its natural beauty but for the lessons you can learn about life and to bring your sense of humour with you, trust me, you'll need it!
